Melissa's Bio:
Melissa is VFOR’s current Secretary and Past President of the Board. A native of Waterbury, she is a 1992 graduate of the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Education and Early Childhood Development. She has also received a M.S. in Education and Early Childhood Leadership from Bank Street College of Education in New York, NY. Melissa is employed by the Federal Office of Child Care, working to support New England states with her colleagues in the Boston Regional office. She also served the state of Vermont as both the first Pre-K program coordinator at the Agency of Education (2015-2016) as the Policy Director for the Child Development Division in DCF/AHS (2016-2021). Melissa gained non-profit management experience serving as the Executive Director of the Vermont Association for the Education of Young Children from 2006-2016. Melissa’s passion for sober housing—and for the recovery community generally—stems from the effect she has seen it have on her brother, David. As Melissa puts it, the positive effects of sober housing and peer support of the recovery community, “gave me my brother back.” Melissa is involved in VFOR with the hope that she may help give other families the gift of their loved ones becoming healthy.
